 About Hope For Tanzania



Hope for Tanzania is an organization  registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act,no. 24 of 2002, under registration No. 07NGO/00007443 .Hope for Tanzania’s head office is situated in Same town some 105 km from South East of Moshi the Headquarters of Kilimanjaro Region.

Brief description of Same district.
Same District lies between 4S – 4.45S and 37.5E – 38.5E (South – Eastern).  It covers an area of 5186 square km equivalent to 39% of total area of the region (13309km2). It is administratively divided into 6divisions, 31 wards, 91 villages and 471 registered sub village among of them there are 12 sub villages which make Same Township Authority.  The district also has two parliamentary constituencies Same East (which has 14 wards, 49 villages and 266 sub village and Same West (which has 1 Township Authority, 17 wards, 42 villages and 205 sub villages).  The council has established the provisional Same Township Authority and it is in operation.
 Geographical Setting and Climate
The  district has three ecological zones comprising the upland, the middle and lowland plateaus.
The upland plateau.
This zone lies between altitudes of 1,100 – 2,462 above sea level, with rainfall  ranging from 1250 – 2000mm per annum.  Temperature ranges between 15 - 250C. The arable land in the upland zone is fully utilized where by farming is the main economic activity of the people.  The crops grown include coffee, timber trees, bananas, maize, beans, cardamom and various fruits such as pears, pawpaw, and avocados and  vegetables such as tomatoes, onion, spinach, lettuce, okra and  pepper.
The Middle Plateu.
 The zone lies between an altitude of 900 – 1100m above the sea level, and experiences rainfall between 800 – 1250mm per annum.  The temperature ranges from 25 - 300C.  Crops produced in this zone include maize, coffee and timber-trees.
 The Lowland Plateau Zone
This zone is between 500 – 900m above sea level and it experiences rainfall between 500 – 800mm per annum.  This zone is semi-arid and is dominated by pastoralist.  However some crops produced here include paddy maize, cotton, sisal, vegetables, sim-sim, labalab doricas, millet, sorghum, groundnuts, beans, sunflower, sugarcane and fruits such as pawpaw and mangoes. There is some  water harvesting and irrigation along Pangani river Basin
